Cauvery Water Dispute News Live Updates (September 28): Over 2,000 pro-Kannada groups have called for a Karnataka bandh on Friday (September 29) to protest against releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. ‘Kannada Okkuta’, an umbrella organisation for Kannada organisations, has warned the state government against measures to curtail it. They have said that the bandh is for the entire Karnataka and that they will try to shut highways, toll gates, rail services, and also airports, as per PTI. As part of the bandh from 6am to 6 pm Friday, there will be a protest procession from Town Hall to Freedom park in the city. Meanwhile, the direction of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to Karnataka to Tamil Nadu from Thursday to October 15 will be challenged before the Supreme Court, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday.

On the same day, metro services will remain suspended between Mysore Road and Kengeri stations on the newly constructed extension from Kengeri to Challaghatta (part of the Namma Metro’s Purple Line), for scheduled inspection work. However, train services will be available between Baiyyappanahalli and Mysore Road, Whitefield and K R Puram stations, and along the entire Green Line.

In a disappointment for the fans, South African comedian Trevor Noah Wednesday cancelled his show in Bengaluru citing “technical issues”. He apologised to those who had come for the show and said the money would be refunded. The show came on a day Bengaluru saw massive traffic jams, which added to people’s disappointment as they had spent hours commuting.

Releasing the letter at a news conference, the former prime minister said that Modi should direct the Jal Shakti Ministry to file an application in the Supreme Court informing it of deputing an expert panel to study water availability in the reservoirs of Cauvery basin.

Congress high command warns Karnataka leaders from making ‘unacceptable and unwarranted’ remarks

As factionalism threatened to further embarrass the Karnataka government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Congress high command has stepped in to rein the ranks in and advise party leaders against responding to “rumours”. Any remarks that went against party interest were “unacceptable and unwarranted”, according to a letter by K C Venugopal, AICC general secretary (organisation).
