Asian Games 2023 LIVE Updates Day 3: India win gold in equestrian team dressage at Asian Games

India’s Eabad Ali clinched India’s second medal in sailing at the Asian Games on Tuesday as he showcased his windsurfing skills to claim a bronze medal in the Men’s Windsurfer RS:X event.

Ali finished with 57 points (Net Points: 50) to clinch the bronze medal.

South Korea’s Wonwoo Cho won the gold [14 points] while Thailand’s Natthaphong Phonoppharat clinched silver [29 points].

Indian team of Anush Agarwalla, Hriday Vipul, Divyakriti and Sudipti Hajela on Tuesday created history by clinching a historic gold medal after registering a huge score of 209.205 in the Team Dressage in the ongoing 19th Asian Games on Tuesday.

This is India’s first-ever gold in this event at the Asian Games and their first gold medal in Equestrian after 41 years.

Thailand claimed the first esports medal awarded at the Asian Games on Tuesday, winning a bronze in a playoff against Vietnam in a mobile phone game at an event that will be closely watched by Olympic officials.

Esports was a demonstration tournament at the Jakarta Asian Games five years ago but is a medal event in Hangzhou for the first time, adding weight to the video game industry’s push for a spot on the Olympic programme.

Earlier on Monday, India clinched their first gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. Rudranksh Patil, Aishwary Tomar and Divyansh Panwar won in the 10-metre Air Rifle Team event, ANI reported.

India has earned its second medal in Sailing today, bringing the country’s total medal count for the day to 2.

Eabad concluded with a total score of 59 and a net score of 52. The gold medal in the event was secured by South Korea’s Wonwoo Choo.

Vishnu Sarvanan delivered a remarkable performance, securing the third-place position in Race 12 of the Men’s Dinghy – ILCA7 event. The medal race is scheduled for Wednesday.

Indian boxer Sachin Siwach put up a dominant display in his opening 57kg bout to sail into the pre-quarterfinals of the Asian Games here on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old managed to dominate the match from the beginning wading off flurry of attacks from the Indonesian with ease using his flashy footwork.

Sachin successfully used his long reach to connect accurate jabs and hooks. As the clock ticked, the 2021 World Youth Championship grew in confidence to earn a facile win.

The Indian squash contingent began its Asian Games campaign with comfortable victories over Singapore and Pakistan, in the men’s and women’s team competitions respectively here on Tuesday.

The women’s team comprising 15-year-old Anahat Singh, veteran Joshna Chinappa and Tanvi Khanna blanked Pakistan 3-0 in its opening Pool B match.

The first singles saw Asian Games debutant Anahat getting past Sadia Gul 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 in 16 minutes.

Joshna, playing the first match of her sixth Asian Games, took 13 minutes to beat Noor Ul Huda Sadiq 11-2, 11-5, 11-7. (PTI)

Up next is the bronze medal contest for Tulika Maan in the Women’s +78kg event, scheduled for 1:30 PM IST.

India has achieved a total of 12 medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, comprising two gold, four silver, and six bronze medals.

In the Men’s Squash Team Event, Pool A, India secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Singapore. Abhay Singh, Saurav Ghosal, and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu all emerged victorious in their respective matches, each winning without dropping a game.

In the Women’s +78kg category, India’s Tulika Maan continues her campaign. She secured a victory by defeating Jia Wen Tsai from Chinese Taipei with a score of 10-0, clinching the win via Ippon in the repechage round.

In a Men’s Squash Team Event Pool A encounter, India secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Singapore. Abhay Singh, Saurav Ghosal, and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu emerged triumphant in their respective matches, all achieving straight-game wins.

Ayan Biswas secures a win in the round of 32, triumphing over Vietnam’s Khanh Nguyen with a score of 2-0 in Streetfighter V. As a result, the Indian fighter has advanced to the pre-quarters of the winners’ bracket.

Indian tennis player Ankita Raina secures victory in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) against Adithya Patali Karunaratne from Hong Kong China in the Round 3 of the Women’s Singles event.

In Heat 1 of the men’s 4x100m medley, India secured the second position with a time of 3 minutes and 40.84 seconds. The team consisted of Srihari Nataraj, Likith Selvaraj Prema, Sajan Prakash, and Tanish George Mathew.

The top 8 athletes from both heats will advance to the final round.

India have made its mark at the Asian Games 2023, excelling in specific sports that brought a total of 11 medals for the country. Interestingly, the medal distribution is evenly split between shooting and rowing, each contributing five medals to India’s tally while one gold has come from cricket.
