Bengaluru: Infamous for witnessing long traffic jams, the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Bengaluru witnessed at least 20-25 per cent increase in number vehicles on Wednesday. Sharing about the same on social media, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic East Division, said that the traffic cops are geared up for effective management. He also added that movement of HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicles) is restricted on ORR from 3 pm.

“Today there has been noticed atleast 20 – 25 per cent increase in no. of vehicles on ORR. Traffic officers are briefed and geared up for effective Traffic management. Also HGV movement is restricted on ORR from 3 PM to ensure free flow of Traffic on ORR and surrounding areas,” the DCP wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

An unprecedent traffic jam was witnessed on ORR last week wherein vehicles were stuck on the stretch for nearly four hours. During the traffic disruptions, advisories were issued to ITBT companies to not rush out. Vehicles could cover 5 hours to cover distances of 9-10 Kms.

Moreover, in other news, a proposal has been made to Bengaluru authorities to levy a “congestion tax” on 9 roads including ORR during peak hours. The high-density corridors where the congestion charges may be imposed include Outer Ring Road (ORR), Sarjapur Road, Hosur Road, Old Airport Road, Old Madras Road, Ballari Road, Bannerghatta Road, Kanakapura Road, Magadi Road, West of Chord Road, and Tumakuru Road.
