Bengaluru to Get Direct Flights to Salem, Kolhapur; Check Details

Star Air will launch direct flights from Bengaluru to Kolhapur from October 15, while Alliance Air and IndiGo Airlines will resume operations in Salem, improving connectivity in the region.

Bengaluru: In a long-awaited move, Star Air has announced the launch of direct flights from Bengaluru to Kolhapur, which will begin operations from October 15. This new route will be available three times a week, providing travelers with enhanced connectivity and convenience. The flight leaves Bengaluru at 9:05 a.m. and arrives in Kolhapur at 10:20 a.m. The return travel from Kolhapur will depart at 5:10 p.m. and arrive in Bengaluru at 6:20 p.m.

Exciting news also awaits air passengers in Salem, as flight operations will resume at Salem airport under the Udan 5.0 scheme starting from October 16. Alliance Air has stepped forward to operate flights between Bangalore-Salem-Cochin, with the exception of Wednesdays and Fridays. All other days of the week, the service will be accessible, providing improved connectivity between these cities.

Furthermore, IndiGo Airlines has announced plans to begin flights from Bangalore to Salem and Salem to Chennai on October 29. The Bangalore-Salem-Hyderabad line will operate four days a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Every day of the week, the Salem-Chennai service will be operational. These additional airline connections are expected to meet long-standing air passenger and business sector expectations.

Salem airport, which had remained inactive since June 2, 2021, following the discontinuation of a private carrier’s services, is now set to witness an upswing in activity. Under the Udan 5.0 scheme, Salem was the only airport in Tamil Nadu listed for flight operations. In light of this, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) actively pursued various airlines to operate flights from Salem airport.
