New tax service

Tamicka Jernigan is celebrating the grand opening of her Sister 2 Sister Tax Services from noon-2 p.m. Jan. 20 at 319 W. Marshall Ave.

She started in the tax service industry by working virtually for Legendary Tax Service in Atlanta, Ga. Her now deceased husband, Duane Jernigan, saw her success and encouraged her to open her own business.

They were planning for and working toward that when he and her stepson, Keyan Jernigan, were victims of a homicide this past summer. They had both encouraged and supported her, and so she decided to move forward with those plans.

Her husband, she said, had invested in her training to move into this profession and then supported her work.

“This is something we had planned,” Jernigan said.

The grand opening will include swag bags, raffle drawings and food.

“We’re mobile and we’re in the office,” Jernigan said, explaining that customers can use the business’s secure app and email for mobile service.

“We try to serve everyone,” she said.
