Couple believed to be from Virginia missing in Caribbean after yacht used by escaped prisoners, according to ABC News

(WRIC) — An American couple, believed to be from northern Virginia, has reportedly gone missing in the Caribbean after three escaped prisoners used their yacht to island hop before being recaptured by authorities, according to ABC News.

Ralph Hendry and his wife, Kathy Brandel, disappeared from their yacht, Simplicty, which was docked along the coast of Grenada, according to Hendry’s sister who spoke with ABC News.

According to ABC News, Hendry and Brandel are believed to be from the Falls Church area of Fairfax County.

Police are investigating their disappearance, according to ABC News.

A family friend of the missing American couple has started a GoFundMe for the couple’s children to cover the costs of “recovering the vessel and belongings, covering funeral costs, and providing support for the grieving families,” the page says.

GoFundMe confirmed to ABC News that the page is legitimate, although authorities have not yet confirmed whether or not the couple is believed to be alive.
