Duo connected to Lakemont vandalism face more charges | News, Sports, Jobs

Two men already in jail on charges related to vandalism at Lakemont Park now face additional charges after being accused of breaking into the Altoona police impound yard.

Caleb Michael Crust and Nicholas J. Dubbs, both 23, were arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on 13 charges each, including felony charges of burglary, conspiracy to burglary and criminal trespass, along with misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

According to court documents, police in February began looking at security footage after an item couldn’t be found in the Highway Yard. Video showed two men, later identified as Crust and Dubbs, in the lot on multiple nights. The two were wearing the same clothes each night, the report states.

The duo were seen getting a bicycle and riding it around the lot and on some occasions, they left with multiple bikes, police reported.

Dubbs

Police were able to identify Crust when he used his Sheetz card at the store on the corner of 58th Street and Sixth Avenue.

Dubbs was recognized from previous police encounters, the report states.

During an interview, the men allegedly admitted to getting into the lot and taking bicycles. A search warrant also placed the men’s phones at the lot on Feb. 11 and 15 and March 5 and 6.

The two already face charges after allegedly breaking into Lakemont Park and riding go-carts on the basketball courts, causing more than $70,000 in damage in late October.

They also allegedly admitted to burglarizing storage units on Oct. 10.
