Senior living operators are increasingly incorporating artificial intelligence to help identify behavior patterns in residents and monitor their safety.

Now, one recently AI-enabled tool, Caspar AI, automatically updates families every day– in addition to caregivers – about their loved ones’ health status.

Caspar is partnering with senior living software provider Icon to provide Caspar’s contactless sensors to more senior living communities, the companies recently announced.

AI-enabled sensors are becoming popular in senior care, as the technology can very quickly build out a profile of residents from data collected, such as sleeping or eating habits, which can then be used to predict or prevent falls.

Caspar’s AI capabilities are also intended to help prevent falling emergencies, the company stated. The tech will also be able to generate a personalized health profile – available via Icon’s platform – that both caregivers and family members can access.

As similar AI-enabled devices are now available in the senior living market, some have taken creative steps to differentiate themselves.

For example, OnScreen’s AI companion, Joy, assists with care coordination and seniors’ health via a digital avatar that interacts with residents on their television screens. That tool doubles as a heath monitor and virtual “friend” to help address residents’ loneliness.

Similarly, Caspar and Icon tout the capabilities of their system, as providing dual benefits of “peace of mind for families” and “staff efficiency,” helping caregivers prioritize in-person check-ins.

“The senior care sector is labor-intensive, and technology, especially through collaborations like Caspar AI and Icon, can significantly enhance care while optimizing staff operations,” Caspar AI CEO Ashutosh Saxena said in a statement, adding that “resident safety is the number one reason that extends the length of stay of the residents.”Another recently released tool, SkyPoint AI, combines data on senior living residents with operational analysis, directly assisting facility operators. Similar to ChatGPT, the SkyPoint tool allows users to ask questions about how to provide care, or manage the business end.
