Progressland football team went 3-3 in Week 8 with Moshannon Valley, Philipsburg-Osceola ad West Branch all enjoying victories.

The Black Knights and Warriors each helped their playoff chances as they currently sit fifth and sixth respectively in District 6 class A.

Mo Valley handed Claysburg-Kimmel 48-20, while West Branch rallied from a 14-0 second quarter deficit to defeat Glendale 35-21.

The Mounties won for the second straight week as they took down Westmont Hilltop 25-14 in a Saturday game.

Clearfield nearly rallied from a 21-7 deficit against Richland, but ultimately fell to the Rams by a 35-28 score, while Curwensville led Juniata Valley 21-14 in the second half, but the Hornets scored a defensive TD and had a pair of punt returns for scores to overtake the Tide.

Top Quarterbacks

1. West Branch’s Tyler Biggans completed 18 of his 25 pass attempts for 313 yards and three scores and added a 2-yard TD run in the Warriors’ win. Biggans score on the ground was the start of a 28-point second quarter that also saw him toss scoring strikes of 49 and 25 yards.

2. Mo Valley’s Jalen Kurten connected on nine of 18 throws for 167 yards and five touchdown tosses to lead the Knights over the Bulldogs.

Rushing Leaders

1. Mo Valley’s Luke Yarger carried 17 times for 170 yards, putting the exclamation point on the Knights’ 48-20 win with a 68-yard fourth-quarter score.

2. Philipsburg-Osceola’s Jakodi Jones ran the ball 23 times for 114 yards and scored on a 7-yard run late in the fourth that put the Mounties in front for good.

3. Glendale’s Troy Misiua picked up 95 yards on 12 carries and scored on TD runs of 12 and 37 yards that staked the Vikings to a 14-0 lead over West Branch, which scored the next 28 points on the way to the win.

1. Black Knight receiver Micah Beish hauled in eight passes for 159 yards, with five of them going for touchdowns. Beish scored on plays of 36, 16, 22, 25 and 23 yards.

2. West Branch’s Nick Stavola caught four balls for 139 yards and a 49-yard TD that tied the Warriors’ game with Glendale at 14-14 midway through the second quarter.

3. Warrior Wyatt Schwiderske added seven receptions for 85 yards and scored on a 16-yard run that put West Branch in front 21-14.

Big Plays

1. Mo Valley’s JC Smith picked off a Claysburg-Kimmel pass to halt a Bulldog drive and returned it 77 yards to paydirt to put the Knights on top 21-0 in the second quarter.

2. Biggans hit Stavola for a 55-yard gain to the 2-yard line on a double pass in the second quarter that jumpstarted the Warriors’ offense. West Branch trailed 14-0 at that point, but Biggans bulled in from 2 yards out on the next play to begin a 28-point quarter.

Clearfield won the turnover battle 4-0 against Richland, recovering two fumbles and getting interceptions from Will Domico and Carter Freeland, who returned his for a 68-yard score, but the Bison were outgained on offense by nearly 100 yards (330-244) in the loss.
