Holiday Fund: Connecting underserved students to tech careers | News
Connecting Underserved Students to Tech Careers
Comfortably ensconced in plush orange-and-black gaming chairs, middle school students at Cesar Chavez Ravenswood Middle School are gaining hands-on experience in building tech devices and learning essential skills through a pilot gaming technology program. Thanks to a grant from the Palo Alto Weekly’s Holiday Fund, the Circuit EPA nonprofit has been able to introduce students to virtual reality and esports technology, preparing them for careers in the tech sector.
Empowering Students with Tech Skills
At the Circuit EPA, students from disadvantaged backgrounds are immersed in hands-on, immersive experiences to train them in a wide spectrum of tech disciplines, providing them with the skills and knowledge to be competitive in the tech industry. The program aims to offer opportunities for students to engage in trades and pursue careers in various tech fields, nurturing their interest in STEAM disciplines.
Despite their proximity to Silicon Valley, students from East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park have had limited exposure to tech businesses, making programs like Circuit EPA crucial in providing them with opportunities in the tech industry.
