Snowfall coming to the Cascades

SEATTLE – The shift from fall to winter has begun in the Cascades. Tuesday afternoon, snow started falling at Stevens Pass.
The Washington State Department of Transportation wants drivers to prepare for slick conditions. WSDOT spokesperson Meagan Lott says this sudden storm will be a true test of whether Washington drivers are winter ready.
“We are geared up, and we’re ready for this first storm event,” said Lott. “This is a little bit early than what we’ve seen the last couple of years as far as snow.”
Back in 2022, Snoqualmie Pass received its first dusting October 26. The year before that, 2021 the first snowfall hit November 6.
According to Lott, crews have spent hours pre-treating roadways and plows are on standby. She says last winter, unprepared drivers forced Snoqualmie Pass to shut down a total of 122 hours.
“It’s going to be important for drivers who are traveling tonight and into the early morning hours to be prepared,” said Lott.
