  • Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation multiple development projects in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi. Under the Harit Nauka initiative, he also launched India’s first indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel. Cochin Shipyard is the manufacturer of the vessel. 
  • Former Supreme Court Judge A.M. Khanwilkar has been appointed as the next Lokpal Chief. He was elected as Lokpal Chairman following discussions by a high-level committee comprising PM Narendra Modi, CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) will organise the “Poshan Utsav: Celebrating Nutrition” event in New Delhi today. On this occasion, Poshan Utsav Book’ will also be released, and a Cartoon Coalition will announce its support for the cause of POSHAN through collaboration with MoWCD. The objective of the Poshan Utsav is to use popular cartoon characters to promote holistic nutrition in children by working with Amar Chitra Katha and MoWCD.
  • The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will virtually inaugurate the First Mile Connectivity Projects of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) under the Ministry of Coal, today. 
  • Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, will unveil the coal logistics plan and policy  today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

  • Sweden is set to become a member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) as Hungary’s parliament approved Sweden’s NATO bid on Monday. With this, Sweden will become the 32nd NATO member. Last year, Finland joined NATO as its 31st member.

  • India emphatically called for the reinstatement of the Appellate Body as the primary goal of any reform process during the Working Session on Dispute Settlement (DS) Reforms at the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on February 28, 2024. Due to the blocking of the appointment of its members, the Appellate Body has been non-functional since December 2019. India also demanded effective formalisation of the ongoing informal dispute settlement reform discussions among some members of the WTO.

Entertainment News

The Sangeet Natak Akademi released on wednesday the list of six eminent personalities in the field of performing arts that are elected for Akademi Fellowships (Akademi Ratna). It is a most prestigious and rare honour and is restricted to 40 at any given time. The awards have been conferred since 1952.
