United Naga Council To Hold Massive Rallies Today

The powerful United Naga Council (UNC) will hold massive rallies in Naga-inhabited areas in Manipur today. The rally has been called to press for successfully concluding the peace talks with the Centre based on the Framework Agreement. According to the statement released by the Naga body, the rallies will be held in the district headquarters of Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts from 10 am. 

The UNC has appealed to all Nagas to participate in the rallies in large numbers.

‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ Campaign To Be Launched 

A 21-day nationwide campaign, ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’, will be launched Today. It is being held to mark the conclusion of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM) and pay tributes to the bravehearts who laid down their lives for the country, the Culture Ministry said in a press release.

The campaign will observe various programmes at village, block, state and national levels from August 9 to 30. The closing ceremony will be held at Kartavya Path in the presence of various dignitaries, the ministry said in its statement.

To encourage mass participation in the yatra, a website has also been launched where people can upload selfies carrying soil or earthen lamps. By doing so, they will take the pledge of ‘Panch Pran’. Once the pledge is taken, a digital certificate of participation can be downloaded from the website.

No Honking Day In Mumbai 

In order to check noise pollution and bring some respite from the regular and loud honking on the streets of Mumbai, the traffic police will observe ‘No Honking Day’ today. It will also be observed on August 16.

Sharing a press release on Twitter and the norms to be followed, the Mumbai Traffic Police wrote “Mumbai will be observing No Honking Day on 9th August (Wednesday) & 16th August in an attempt to reduce the growing trend of unnecessary honking. Honking significantly contributes to noise pollution and health problems.”
