Major League Soccer is reportedly exploring the prospect of trying to tempt Kylian Mbappe to follow Lionel Messi in a blockbuster transfer.

Mbappe is currently facing uncertainty around his future at Paris Saint-Germain as speculation around a potential move continues. The France international is contracted to PSG for the next 12 months, until 2024, after the deadline passed for him to extend his deal by a further year.

It was claimed last month that PSG had placed Mbappe on the club’s transfer list, as they are unwilling to let the player leave for free. It’s also been widely suggested that PSG believes Mbappe already has an agreement to join Real Madrid in a year’s time.

However, the latest report from the Daily Record suggests that Mbappe could be offered the chance to move across the Atlantic. It’s been claimed that Major League Soccer chiefs are working on a structured deal to be able to convince the 2018 World Cup winner to move to the United States.

It’s claimed MLS bosses have been left “emboldened” after the signing of Lionel Messi for Inter Miami. As a result, the league is said to be working hard behind the scenes ever since news emerged that PSG wanted to move on Mbappe. Whilst a deal appears unlikely, it is an indication of the big plans in America after signing Messi as the league continues to expand.

Mbappe has been with PSG since 2017 when he signed from Monaco initially on a season-long loan deal. The move was made permanent a year later when a fee of £166 million was agreed between the two clubs and has since scored 212 goals in 260 appearances.

News emerged in July that Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal were reportedly interested in signing Mbappe. A fee in the region of £257 million was rumoured to have been offered, but the noise around that potential deal has quietened down somewhat in recent weeks, even after PSG gave the player permission to speak to the club.

MLS commissioner Don Garber was recently asked about the prospect of Mbappe coming to the league in the future. And he even hinted that the opportunity to potentially bring Mbappe to the MLS is not out of the question.
