Pearson’s chief executive Andy Bird is retiring after three years at the head of the education publishing group, the company said on Wednesday, and will be replaced by Omar Abbosh.

Abbosh, who is currently president of Microsoft’s industry solutions business, will begin the role early in 2024, the UK-based company said.

Pearson’s chair, Omid Kordestani, said: “With Pearson on firm foundations and with a trajectory for growth, Andy feels now is the right time to hand the reins to a successor.”

Bird said: “It has been an enormous privilege to lead Pearson through a period of significant change over the past three years. The business is now firmly established as a digital-first learning company, with technology driving significant growth.”
