Motorists are facing long delays on two of Greater Manchester’s busiest roads following crashes this afternoon (August 1). The M61 is currently closed northbound between junctions eight and nine, near Chorley, Lancashire.
It’s affecting drivers heading north from Bolton. National Highways says the closure follows a multi-vehicle collision, with three-mile queues approaching the area.
A spokesperson added: “Emergency services are at the scene and National Highways patrols are assessing reported infrastructure damage to a large section of central and nearside barrier. A bridge may also have been struck.”
