Metal Gear Solid Collection fan quickly releases 4K mod

Konami’s new Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 only launched yesterday, but already there’s a mod to boost its versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 up to 4K.

Fans were left disappointed by the base game only offering 720p resolution on PC for these games – following earlier confusion in which Konami initially stated all games would “target” 1080p on all platforms other than Nintendo Switch.

In response, a fan has speedily released the MGSResolutionPatch PC mod, just hours after the game launched on Steam (thanks, PC Gamer).

Konami details the Metal Gear Solid Master Colleciton Vol 1.

The MGSResolutionPatch mod lets you choose the resolution you want for the game, such as 1080p or 4K 2160p, though it does introduce some small issues – such as UI bugs in MGS2.

And in another twist, Nintendo Switch users have been discussing the fact the game’s physical version only includes some of the games on its cartridge. The rest must be downloaded, and an SD card is required.

Included on the Nintendo Switch cartridge are bonus games Metal Gear (MSX), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear (NES) and Snake’s Revenue.

You’ll need 25GB of space (and an additional 12.2GB for bonus videos) to download the core Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3.

Digital Foundry’s John Linneman was among those who criticised the decision.

Konami is planning to patch the MGS Collection post-launch to address technical issues in some cutscenes, the publisher said yesterday.

Further references to a second collection of games have also been spotted by fans, which is expected to include MGS4, MGS5 and MGS Peace Walker.

Have you bought the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1? How are you finding it?
