Michigan Technological University and LeapScholar are collaborating to make world-class
education more accessible and affordable for Indian students. As part of the Leap
Advantage program, both the College of Engineering’s M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and the College of Computing’s M.S. in Health Informatics will now be available to Indian students looking to earn a degree in a hybrid format.
Students enrolling in Leap Advantage will begin their coursework in India and complete
it on campus in Houghton, Michigan. This hybrid format will reduce the total cost
of the degree program. Also, because students are pursuing a STEM degree, they will
qualify for a 3-year post-study work visa upon graduation, just like full-time international
students.
“Michigan Tech has a long tradition of welcoming international students, and we embrace
the opportunity to partner with LEAP to offer unique opportunities to expand access
to our programs,” said Will H. Cantrell, Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate
School. “Students from across the globe are an exciting, vibrant piece of the Michigan
Tech community, and this new partnership with LEAP will expand access to our programs,
making them more accessible for a new generation of students.”
Michigan Tech has a strong reputation for graduating highly skilled professionals
who get good jobs that pay them back. MTU students boast a 93% job placement rate
after graduation, and they earn an average starting salary of $71,100. This is why
Michigian Tech was recently ranked the 16th best public university in the U.S. by
the Wall Street Journal and in the top 25 nationally for return on investment by Forbes.
Michigan Tech’s M.S. in Mechanical Engineering graduate program is ranked in the top
35 percent of such programs by the U.S. News & World Report. MTU students who earn
an M.S. in Health Informatics often receive multiple job offers and report an average
starting salary of nearly $108,000 per year.

their popular program to Indian students in a hybrid format, and at a much lower cost.

Applications for the Leap Advantage program are open now for Indian students aiming
to enroll for fall semester 2024. The last date to apply is Friday, April 28, 2024.
GRE/GMAT scores are not required to be eligible for the program.
