Bruno contract clause rubbished

Even signing a new, plush five-year deal on Tyneside can’t put an end to Bruno Guimaraes being linked with other clubs. Saturday brought surprising speculation that the Brazilian has a ‘secret’ clause in his Newcastle United deal that will allow La Liga heavyweights Barcelona to acquire his services for only £56m.

Spanish outlet Sport claim Guimaraes ‘dreams’ of playing for the Nou Camp outfit and wanted the clause included. Chronicle Live understands there is indeed a release clause in the 25-year-old’s improved deal but it is around £100m for any club that wants to begin contract negotiations with the player.

Newcastle see the contract stipulation as protecting themselves going forward. Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo have both moved for similar fees in recent months, with Guimaraes in that bracket of talent.

This weekend’s speculation isn’t the first time Guimaraes has been linked with a shock move to Barcelona. Only a matter of months ago, a sensational tweet from popular Spanish journalist Gerard Romero claimed Newcastle had offered £25m plus Bruno for Raphinha.

The journalist swiftly corrected the record and admitted he’d got it wrong but it does seem as though the Spanish press are insistent on pushing Guimaraes towards Barcelona at every opportunity. But the player himself has never expressed any inclination he has the blue and red of Barcelona in his heart.

International youngsters shine

Newcastle United youngster Anthony Munda has impressed again on international duty with five Magpies going unbeaten in this weekend’s action.

The youngster, who signed a scholarship with the Toon in the summer, set up a goal in his last Three Lions outing and did the same for Ryan Garry’s England U18s against Morocco U18s.

The England boss made ten changes from the 1-1 draw with Belgium last week and made a similarly bright start. They took the lead after just ten minutes with Newcastle’s Munda the provider again as his whipped cross picked out Southampton’s Samuel Amo-Ameyaw who tucked it away at the near post.

Greg Lincoln’s England U17s drew 2-2 with Norway U17s with Magpies duo Leo Shahar and Trevan Sanusi both in action. The latter of the duo started and played his part in the opening goal, some good interplay down the right-hand side between Sanusi and Trey Nyoni saw the latter dribble past several players before laying the ball off to Southampton’s Jay Robinson to thump home.

Shahar came off the bench with England on course for their second win over the Norwegians in a week but Felix Taraldset equalised deep into injury-time.
