Ottawa expecting snow, risk of freezing rain as Environment Canada issues winter weather travel advisory

Snow and freezing rain are in the forecast for Ottawa over the next few days.

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the nation’s capital as Ottawa is expected to see roughly five to 10 centimetres of snow starting Tuesday afternoon with a risk of freezing rain.

“Snow may be mixed with freezing rain and ice pellets Tuesday afternoon and evening,” said the weather agency in its statement. “Snow will begin to switch to rain later in the evening and into the overnight hours. Snowfall accumulations may be limited in some areas due to warm surface temperatures.”

Environment Canada is advising people to expect some delays on the roads.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” said Environment Canada. “Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
