San Francisco bars expect increased business from 49ers vs. Packers

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Bay Area sports bars are getting ready for the big game between the 49ers and the Packers this Saturday. For those small businesses, this is a good time to make a lot of money.

“We’re ordered up, ready to roll. Reservations are starting to come in for the tables. Yeah, we’re excited for sure,” said Evan Frey, a bartender at the Wreck Room.

Frey says they’re expecting the 49er faithful to fill up the room at the California Street bar.

Of course, most places will be a home base for fans of the red and gold, but KRON4 also found a safe space for fans of the green and gold. Local Tap, a few blocks from Oracle Park, is an official Packers establishment for Cheeseheads in the Bay Area.

“I honestly think every bar in the Bay Area is going to be busy because of this game because of how big it is and what’s on the line, and I think a lot of Packers fans will be out here and it’s just great for business,” said owner and Packers shareholder Paul Cardinale

Cardinale says he’s been fielding calls from fans looking to visit from Wisconsin, which could be good for San Francisco’s image. He says Niners fans are always welcome at Local Tap, and with the two teams meeting for a record 10th time in the playoffs, it’s almost becoming tradition.

“We make a joke of out it,” Cardinale said. “We’ll duct tape red tape on one side, green tape on the other side and it’s like stick to your sides as a joke but everybody is friendly. They get along with each other.”
