Actor Sonam Khan says her close friend Divya Bharti was a wonderful person with whom she shared one of her strongest friendships. Sonam, best known for her appearance in Tridev, worked with Divya in the 1992 hit Vishwatma.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sonam said the action thriller was Divya’s big launch and the two became close friends as they were of the same age. Divya met an untimely death on April 5, 1993, at the young age of 19. The police said that she was in an intoxicated state when she fell off her 5th-floor balcony in Mumbai.
“Divya was going to be introduced in Vishwatma with me. She was a beautiful person. It was my last film. We used to joke and laugh a lot. She would have been a very, very huge star. We bonded very well, we were of the same age. There was no ego in our relationship. With me and her, that was never the case,” Sonam said.

When asked how their friendship goes against the gender stereotype that two actresses can never be friends, Sonam said, “That depends. I will not totally agree with you, but that depends. But Divya ji was something else.”

Directed by Rajiv Rai–former husband of Sonam Khan–Vishwatma also starred of Sunny Deol, Naseeruddin Shah and Chunky Pandey. It was the last film that Sonam said she worked on–before she left acting– and remembered feeling low on the final day of the shoot.
“I was actually sad that I was leaving everything and going. It pulled my heart. For the first time I felt I don’t think I have done the correct thing. But by then when the film was getting over, I was already married. Those days if you gave up your career, had a kid, you couldn’t come back. I just got married and had a kid within two years of marriage. I gave up working. Work never gave up on me. People who easily get work must always value it. You shouldn’t take things for granted,” she added.
Sonam shot to fame in 1989 with the film Tridev, in which she featured in the chartbuster track “Tirchi Topi Wale”. Her last film appearance dates to 1994. Sonam said she is now ready make her comeback.
