Former President Donald Trump may have skipped the GOP debate last night, but details of his 2024 campaign’s strategy on trade are sharing the spotlight anyway.
In an interview on Fox Business last week, Trump floated an automatic, 10% tariff on goods imported to the US from all countries. He likened the plan to “a ring around the collar” of the US economy, curiously evoking a late-1970s ad slogan for laundry soap billed as especially good at ridding shirts of neck grime.
