Texas football landed its top priority target along the O-Line on Sep. 24, the No. 1 offensive tackle recruit in the nation in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei five-star Brandon Baker. But landing Baker’s commitment gives offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and Texas one of two blue-chip Mater Dei OL priorities they want in this class.
Flood and the Longhorns are also prioritizing the recruitment of the highly touted four-star Mater Dei interior offensive lineman, and Auburn Tigers commit DeAndre Carter. Despite being head coach Hugh Freeze and Auburn’s only offensive line commit in the Tigers’ 2024 class, Texas is still chipping away at Carter’s pledge this fall.

Texas is giving Carter something to think about after he made a successful official visit to Austin for the Longhorns’ win over the No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks on Sep. 30. Carter and his parents had a great experience during his first trip to Texas since his visit to Austin for the first Junior Day of the 2023 offseason on Jan. 21.
Carter also has his teammate and fellow starter along the Mater Dei offensive line this fall, Baker, in his ear, trying to recruit him to Texas.
It sounds like this push from Texas’ staff, and also Baker, to flip Carter’s commitment from Auburn has made an impression on him in the last couple of weeks. Inside Texas reported on Oct. 12 (paid content) that Texas flipping Carter’s commitment from Auburn “remains a real possibility” this fall.
Carter is Flood’s top remaining priority at OL in the 2024 class this fall
After landing Baker’s commitment on Sep. 24, Texas has three offensive linemen committed to the 2024 class. Since Flood and the Longhorns are looking for a fourth scholarship offensive lineman to take in the 2024 class, Carter is the clear-cut top priority in the trenches this fall for the staff.
Flood has made it clear that he and the staff want Carter in this class. While the coaches are hitting the road during the bye this week to watch top targets in high school football action, Flood will visit Southern California to see Carter, Baker, and Mater Dei face fellow CA powerhouse St. John Bosco.
