Mumbai : Massive traffic jams on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway ( WEH ) have become too frequent for office-goers and other commuters to deal with. For the second time in three weeks, on Monday, a long queue of vehicles was seen at the busy highway. The traffic jam from Kandivali towards Andheri allegedly extended for nearly six kilometres beyond Borivali.

The traffic movement on Western Express Highway was disrupted due to some construction works that was underway near the Aarey Bridge path that leads to Bandra. One of the X (Formerly Twitter) users shared a video of the construction work.

How Mumbaikars are Reacting to Jam on Western Express Highway

Social media users posted on X, expressing their concerns and experiences from where they were stuck during this traffic. The traffic which was said to have been diverted to one lane on the other side of the road also ended up in a congested condition.

“Most pathetic state of affairs today on the western express highway. Started at 7.15 am from Charkop and reached BKC at 10 am! Who in their right minds does metro construction work during monday morning peak hour in the middle of the #weh??? #mybmc (sic),” a user wrote on X.

Another sad,” Whoever has to take Western Express Highway today, God Bless You! “

A third asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police for help. ‘Traffic on #westernexpresshighway #weh from Kandivali till Goregaon . Started as always on time but will be reaching an hour or more late today to the office @mybmc @MumbaiPolice please help your citizens. This is not the way to treat them,” they wrote.

Office-Going Mumbaikars Mull Working-From-Home

“Mumbaikars who travel on the Western Express Highway will have to be taking work-from-home today”, was a sentiment shared by many.

“WEH is completely choked. #WesternExpressHighway #MumbaiTraffic…Some issue at the start of Aarey Bridge going towards Bandra….Traffic diverted to one lane on other side of road and it seems our drivers have covered the full road and now both sides face each other….In my view, saying Choke is showing humility. This doesn’t look good…WEH wants travellers to WFH😉(sic),” wrote a user.

“Why would you do this to us #mumbaikars on a Monday morning. Stuck for the past hour just from Malad to Goregaon and still not moving. Who is responsible for this? Absolutely pathetic state of our #mumbai city!!!! (sic),” wrote another annoyed netizen.

Sharing an aerial view of the jam another X user wrote, “This is the reason for traffic jam on Western Express Highway …. Something which could be done earlier but efficient team decided to do it on Monday peak hours… Kindly mark half day leave in your respective organisation. (sic)”

Before this, on August 14, the Western Express Highway saw heavy traffic due to the work of demolishing the gantry girders on the Andheri flyover. Although the Mumbai Traffic Police issued an advisory regarding the same a few days ago, the work took longer than expected leading to traffic congestion.
