Wilbraham officer shot; Troopers, negotiators respond to scene

A Massachusetts police officer was hospitalized Saturday night after being shot in the town of Wilbraham, which is located east of Springfield. The officer was injured in the area of Old Carriage Road, Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Brandon Doherty said.Doherty said troopers were on scene Saturday night and that a subject may be barricaded inside a home. He also said that a K-9 unit, the specialized tactical operations team and negotiators were also responding. “It’s very early in the investigation with few confirmed details,” said Jim Leyden, a spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. The public was asked to avoid the area.
