Three teenagers were injured Friday morning in a shooting outside Carver Vocational Technical High School in west Baltimore.City police confirmed a shooting outside the school at Presstman and North Bentalou streets around 7:50 a.m. Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Jones said two 16-year-old students were injured and taken to a hospital. Jones said a 17-year-old walked into a hospital on their own. Jones said the shooter fled east on Presstman Street.”All three victims are in non-life-threatening condition at University Hospital,” Jones said. “This is an active crime scene, it’s still early in the investigation as of right now. Crime lab is on the scene.” School police put the campus on lockdown, which remained in effect through the 9 a.m. hour.Baltimore City Public Schools posted shortly before 9 a.m. on X, formerly known as Twitter, that students were safe inside the school building. WBAL-TV 11 News crews at the location observed parents and students arriving at the school.In a post on X, City Schools said: “We are aware of an incident at Carver this morning. We’re working with Baltimore Police Department and will share further details when we can. Parents/guardians and families are advised not to go to the school at this time. Please wait for further instructions. The families of the students injured have been notified. All students are inside and the campus is secure.”In an update, the district said Carver will dismiss students at 10:30 a.m. Students who take MTA buses will be picked up directly at Carver by school and/or MTA buses that will take them along their regular MTA route. Parents who normally pick up their students can pick them up at the football field starting at 10:30 a.m.Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott posted a statement on X, saying: “We are closely monitoring the shooting at Carver H.S. this morning and are working with the Baltimore police Baltimore City Schools. We will continue to share details as they become available. We are standing with the entire Carver community as we grapple with this incident.”Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby released a statement, saying, in part: “Our hearts are with the two people who were shot and their families. The City Council and I are praying for a speedy and full recovery. There are no words that can be conveyed to those who have witnessed a loved one being shot, but too often in this city we find ourselves still trying to find those words. No resident in any corner of our city should feel unsafe going to school in the morning.”Baltimore City Councilman James Torrence, D-District 7, posted a statement on X, saying: “I am aware of the double-shooting outside my beloved Carver Vo-Tech High School this morning. The mayor’s office and BPD are actively communicating developments with myself and community members. Please keep the victims, school and community in your prayers.
