BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — A fire caused heavy damage Friday morning to a building that houses the Kentucky Sen’s Bowling Green office. Rand Paul and a local law firm.

Fire crews were called to the State Street building around 2 a.m. Friday and discovered a massive fire that required additional units, Bowling Green Fire Department spokeswoman Katie McKee told the Daily News.

Six units worked for hours to put out the flames, with firefighters fitted with aerials to reach the blaze from above. The fire caused a roof to collapse and a plume of thick gray smoke to rise from the top of the building at sunrise, the newspaper reported.

No injuries were reported, McKee said. The cause and origin of the fire were under investigation.

Paul said in a statement that he was grateful to first responders who arrived quickly to put out the fire. He said his office was working with authorities to assess the damage and determine a cause and would continue to work for voters.

“We have a very well-established emergency management plan and have the ability to continue operations that will not impact our work helping Kentuckians,” he said.
