A last-minute business rush for Northern California holiday shoppers

Last-minute shoppers have flooded stores as the countdown to Christmas Day starts.As many try to avoid traffic, crowds, and parking, this time of the year is a boost to many businesses in Northern California as the search for the perfect Christmas present continues.”It’s been a really good season so far, and we’re looking forward to the final weekend,” said Troy Carlson at Old Sacramento’s State Nine Entertainment store. “I think they’re calling it Super Saturday, and the weather is going to be great. I love seeing the guys that come out last-minute with that panicked look, but don’t worry; we’ll help you out.”The gift store offers a range of unique gifts from keychains to souvenirs to toys, and this Christmas, they’re debuting an underground vault filled with artwork, rare pieces of Disney history, and other Disney collection items.Another hopeful business owner is Donna Tielsch, who said business this time of the year depends heavily on weather conditions. While it rained earlier this week, this weekend is looking dry.”Finally, the weather is really good,” Tielsch said. “It was really busy yesterday, and I expect it’ll be busy today, too, and we’ll probably stay open late because I’m sure it’s going to be really busy.” The Westfield Galleria in Roseville is expecting nearly 150,000 people this weekend and they’ve added traffic control to help ease the flow.One last-minute shopper told KCRA 3 that it took him one hour to find a parking spot.”It was pretty chaotic; you’d think it was the day before Christmas even though it’s a few days. We also have a large truck, so it’s difficult,” said Ryan Fusco, adding that traffic control officers are doing a good job directing and easing traffic.Peak times at the Galleria are between 1-4 p.m.
