A23 traffic recap: Road closed as emergency services at scene of ‘serious incident’

A section of the A23 was closed this evening following a “serious incident”. The road was closed northbound between the B2031 (Hooley) and the A237 (Coulsdon) but reopened at around 9.30pm.

National Highways took place just off its network. Emergency services, including Surrey Police, were at the scene.




Motorists were warned to allow extra time for their journeys. Those planning on travelling were told they may wish to delay their journey or find an alternative route.

The A23 has now reopened in both directions.

Inrix states:

A23 Brighton Road in both directions re-opened, earlier accident investigation work between Netherne Drive ( Hooley ) and Woodplace Lane ( Coulsdon ). Closed since around 12:30, with southbound now closed to assist with police investigations at the scene.

Despite clean-up work being carried out at the scene of the crash, there is no delays being reported.
