Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis | Friday, November 3, 2023

Hoosier Park has a 13-race card to begin the weekend featuring three-year-olds competing in Grand Circuit action. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 10 (9:24 PM EST)

5-Erwin Hanover (4-1)-Going to fade the 8/5 morning line choice #3-Stockade Seelster, who might be bet down. Erwin needs some lively fractions and that could happen here. Gets a prime post draw and Gingras should have in striking range at the top of the lane.
7-Why Not Now (7/2)-Hometown favorite is as consistent as they come on this oval (19-5-7-3) and has won 8 of 15 this year. The question mark is this will be the 1st time for Lasix. But does get the services of Dexter Dunn and will rely on the Dylan Davis trainee to be dialed on high.
9-Coach Stefanos (5-1)-Was 14 lengths back at the 1/2 in the Crown Final and that was on a sloppy track. Went the 2nd half in .53 and still finished a well beaten 5th. Expecting a higher price than the morning line and have to think Trace Tetrick will land in a better seat off the gate.

Race 11 (9:45 PM EST)

5-French Wine (7/2)-Willing to take one swing to beat the Breeders Crown champion and landed here. With this post draw Andy Miller should have his pupil much closer to the lead at the 1/2 pole than last week. Has finished better than the champ in the past and the same might happen tonight.
8-Tactical Approach (9/5)-Takter pupil is versatile and reliable. Made short work of the field in the Breeders Crown Final and was stuck with post 10. Scott Zeron should be able to provide a smooth steer and chances are it will be win #10 on the year.

Race 12 (10:06 PM EST)

5-Ultra Image (3-1)-Draws well, gets needed class relief, and the regular pilot Trace Tetrick is back between the pipes. Likes to win and with a smooth trip could be posing for his 6th time in 18 starts.
7-Billy Clyde (5/2)-Looking for Jordan Ross to race at the top of the stack off the gate. Could land on the point or in the pocket and prove to be the best down the lane.

Race 13 (10:27 PM EST)

1-Fox Valley Jasper (6-1)-Illinois bred was 14 lengths back at the first call last week and that won’t be the case tonight. Finally draws inside at HoP and should benefit from an efficient trip.
2-Bicorne Hanover (9/2)-This veteran can come off cover, but De Long also likes to stay inside and rally down the lane. Could see a similar trip as the one above, save ground and then look to rally.
8-Whiskey Wizzard (5-1)-Won last time by almost 6 length in 152.1 and now steps up. Appears to be healthy after a pair of sick scratches near the end of September. Tetrick sticks and should be out and rolling when the wings fold.
