Thanksgiving travel is busy on the roadways and the airways —Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport seeing it already as people get ready to board their flights.Officials are urging travelers to plan to arrive an hour and a half to two hours ahead of their scheduled departure.Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport anticipates that both parking and getting through the TSA checkpoint will take longer than normal and it could reach record levels at times.“We expect to be busy. We work with our staff, restaurants, and retailers to make sure they are stocked and staffed and ready to go for the peak times that we expect to happen,” said Kim Hunt, who is a representative of the airport.Passengers are encouraged to park, catch a shuttle to the terminal, and ride a shuttle back to the economy lot when they return. The shuttles run continuously and the ride to and from the terminal is approximately 2 minutes. Passenger traffic at BHM is trending up and began to surpass 2019 levels back in June.
