A 4-year-old girl who was kidnapped Thursday by her non-custodial biological mother in Springfield triggering an Amber Alert has been found safe, Massachusetts State Police said. State police said Cortana Goncalves, 4, was taken Thursday morning by Brandee Arnold, 32. The child was found safe just before noon with Arnold inside a trailer at a trailer park on Fifth Avenue in Cheshire, which is in northwest Massachusetts, state police said. “Cortana Goncalves has been located; she is safe. She was found in Cheshire, Mass.,” state police tweeted.Arnold is in custody and will be taken to Springfield police, who have jurisdiction over the kidnapping incident, state police said.State police said Arnold took Cortana from a family gathering earlier Thursday morning in violation of her custody agreement.“Arnold has previously made both suicidal and homicidal statements, and there is urgent concern for the safety and well-being of the child,” state police said.Amber Alerts are activated when an incident satisfies specific criteria, including law enforcement’s belief that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death; there is enough descriptive information about the victim, alleged abductor and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an alert; and the abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger.
