Android users are set to get a new audio-sharing option that will allow them to listen to the same audio on different Bluetooth audio devices. The feature, as per 9to5Google’s report is a part of the latest developer preview version of Android 15 also known as the Android 15 DP2 update.
It is worth noting that the feature made the first cut into the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 last month and it appears that Google is finally planning to include this feature with the future version of the Android operating system.
What is this new audio-sharing feature?The new audio-sharing feature is designed to allow users to broadcast the audio from a single device to multiple compatible Bluetooth audio devices. This will allow them to listen to the audio on multiple earbuds, speakers, etc at the same time. The key differentiating factor is that users can listen to the audio without needing to pair them with the phone first.
According to the report, there’s a ‘play a test sound’ feature that plays audio for users to check if all the devices are connected and synced up properly. Additionally, users will also get the ‘Stream settings’ text, but it is currently disabled and does not show any information as such.
While the feature is available in the latest beta version of Android 15, it should be noted that it might not cut the final version of the operating system. Also, the feature is likely backed by the Auracast feature and may only support the devices that support Auracast.
The Auracast feature broadcasts the signal and Bluetooth devices that are compatible with Auracast can connect to the single and play music. The feature works like a radio broadcast where signals are broadcasted at a particular frequency and users can tune to a particular channel to listed to the content. Also, the feature does not require pairing like the regular Bluetooth connection. Also, there’s no limitation and users can connect as many devices as they want.
