Apple reportedly working on new thermal design for iPhone 16 to reduce overheating
The Apple iPhone 16 lineup might feature a new and improved thermal design.
Tipster @KosutamiSan shared on X that Apple is “actively working on [a] graphene thermal system” to address the overheating issues which affected some iPhone 15 phones.
Since graphene has four times better thermal conductivity than copper (which is used in the current thermal system), the new material should go a long way in minimising the overheating issue.
In addition, Apple is said to be considering metal battery shells for the iPhone 16 Pro to reduce overheating.
Shortly after the launch of the iPhone 15, there were numerous reports of the devices overheating under normal usage conditions.
While some reports suggested that it was a hardware problem – many pointed fingers at the titanium chassis and noted that titanium had poorer thermal conductivity than stainless steel – Apple insisted it was caused by a bug in iOS 17 and some third-party apps. iOS 17.0.03 was released in October to fix the overheating issues on the iPhone 15.
