Arnold shooting injures man, forces lockdowns since lifted

A man is in the hospital after a shooting in Arnold, Westmoreland County, Monday afternoon, officials tell us. The incident launched a police investigation spanning multiple scenes and forced lockdowns at several schools that have since been lifted.According to Melanie Jones, a spokesperson for the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, the victim showed up at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Several shots were fired. First responders were first called around 12:30 p.m. to the 1500 block of Woodmont Avenue and North Street. The scene quickly escalated, and more police showed up, searching the area and blocking off roads. Officers from the Lower Burrell, Harrison, New Kensington, Arnold and other communities were seen walking up North Street, going down alleys and clustering together looking for evidence. Several evidence markers were in place, with K9 units also on the scene.Neighbors in the area tell us this was an active shooter situation, but police have not confirmed that.Tasha Williams, who lives in the area, said, “I heard police flying down the street and helicopters. I looked on social media, and it said there was an active shooter, and the schools were on lockdown.”Neighbors told us this has been a frightening situation, especially once all schools in the New Kensington-Arnold School District went on lockdown. “This is something serious,” said resident Blake Veri. “There are children everywhere. The schools are on lockdown right now. It’s just a shame.”Lockdowns at NKASD were lifted around 2 p.m., Jones said. Law enforcement also confirms the shooting to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. We also heard from neighbors that a person walked into UPMC St. Margret Hospital in Pittsburgh with a gunshot wound. No arrests have been made yet in this case, according to Jones.
