KENNEWICK, Wash.- The Vacationer has released tips for traveling this holiday season.

Book flights now. The best time to book holiday flights is typically in the summer as Christmas flights fill up fast. So if you haven’t booked your flight now is the time.

What are the best or busiest days for Christmas travel?

According to The Vacationer, the exact day varies each year however, for 2023 the busiest travel days are expected to be

  • Thursday, Dec. 21.
  • Friday, Dec. 22.
  • Saturday, Dec. 23.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 26.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 27.

According to The Vacationer, the best days for Christmas travel will likely be,

  • Monday, Dec. 18.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 19
  • Wednesday, Dec. 20
  • Christmas Day or Christmas Eve.
  • Thursday, Dec. 28.
  • Friday, Dec 29.

For Christmas travel, the best days will generally be several days before or after Christmas.

For New Year travel The Vacationer recommends flying out on Dec. 28 or 29. And for flying home it recommends Jan. 3 or 4.

To avoid hassle if your flight is canceled or delayed The Vacationer recommends booking directly through the airline. When booking through a 3rd party like Expedia or Priceline if a flight is canceled it can be a much more time-consuming process to reschedule your flight.

Booking an early morning flight can also be cheaper and less full.

The Vacationer also says to avoid checking a bag if at all possible to avoid long waits and potentially lost bags.
