The Metro Nashville Police Department provided a sad update to to story of a missing University of Missouri student Friday morning.Police said the body of Riley Strain was recovered from the Cumberland River early Friday in West Nashville.Strain’s body was found approximately eight miles from downtown.At this time, police said no foul-play trauma was observed; however, an autopsy in this case is pending. Strain’s disappearance made national headlines after the Mizzou senior vanished following a night out drinking with friends. Strain had traveled to Tennessee for a fraternity conference and was last seen being kicked out of a bar, Luke’s 32 Bridge, near the Cumberland River. On Tuesday, MNPD released a new body-cam video that shows an officer having a brief exchange with the missing 22-year-old in downtown Nashville, The brief greeting happened shortly before he went missing around 10 p.m. on Friday, March 8. The video showed Officer Reginald Young trading a few sentences back and forth with Strain on Gay Street, south of the Woodland Street Bridge, as he was following up on a vehicle burglary call.”How are you doing, sir?” Young could be heard asking Strain in the video. “I’m good. How are you?” Strain replied as he walked past the officer. The video was recorded before the final sighting of Strain, security footage that shows the 22-year-old walking further south along Gay Street at 9:52 p.m. The last known video of Strain shows him drunkenly wandering and running along Gay Street near First Avenue. Strain appears approximately 30 seconds into that security footage, which can viewed below. On Sunday, MNPD reported that Strain’s bank card had been discovered along the Cumberland Riverfront in downtown Nashville.Police say Strain’s friends tried to find him using his last known Snapchat location but were unsuccessful, ultimately reporting him missing on Saturday, March 9. His family was able to pinpoint his phone’s last known location to a spot less than one mile away from the bar where he was last seen. “He FaceTimed his mother with one of his friends that was with him at the bar,” said Strain’s stepfather, Chris Whiteid. “I could hear him. He was having fun. He wasn’t extremely intoxicated or anything, he was just out having a good time.”Strain’s parents, who live in Springfield, drove to Nashville last weekend to help with the search. His hometown held a vigil last week to pray over the search efforts.
