Parliament’s Budget Session to Commence Today

The Budget Session of Parliament, marking the final session of the present Lok Sabha, is set to commence on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu scheduled to address a joint sitting.

Ahead of the session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi outlined the main agenda for the brief 17th Lok Sabha session, scheduled to conclude on February 9. The agenda includes the President’s Address, the presentation of the Interim Budget, and the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, culminating with a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PTI reported.

All eyes will particularly be on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s presentation of the Interim Budget on February 1, as it is expected to provide insights into the ruling BJP’s agenda for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in April-May.

In a development scheduled for Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to question Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Ranchi as part of a money laundering case probe linked to an alleged land scam. High Court Likely to Hear AAP Plea For Fresh Mayoral Polls in Chandigarh

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday, seeking to overturn the results of the mayoral polls in Chandigarh. The AAP is demanding fresh elections under the supervision of a retired High Court judge.

This development comes in the wake of the BJP’s success in the Chandigarh mayoral polls, where it retained all three posts. The Congress-AAP alliance alleges tampering with ballot papers by the presiding officer. The petition filed by AAP councillor Kuldeep Kumar, the mayoral candidate, targets the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and the Chandigarh UT administration, among others. The court is expected to hear the case on Wednesday.
