Aplin will be replaced by Jeff Hildebrand, the chair and founder of Hilcorp Energy Company. The Buc-ee’s CEO served as the TPWC chairman for two years until Thursday, according to the Dallas Morning News. He originally joined the commission in 2018 and then became chairman in 2021.

“I thank him for faithfully serving his fellow Texans to preserve the beautiful Texas landscape that spurs our booming tourism industry and protects our state’s rich history,” Abbott said of Aplin in a statement.
