AND HE SAID, THAT’S STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. HE COULDN’T SAY WHETHER IT BELONGED TO HIM OR NOT. AND THEN I ALSO ASKED HIM WHETHER THE THE CAR HAD ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS IN THERE, AND HE COULDN’T TELL ME WHAT WAS IN THE CAR YET EITHER. BUT HE DID SAY THAT THEY DO HAVE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY. THEY SAID THAT SUSPECT MADE SOME STATEMENTS THAT WERE CONCERNING AND ASKED ABOUT WHAT THOSE STATEMENTS WERE AS WELL. BUT AGAIN, THE CAPTAIN TELLING ME THAT THEY DO HAVE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY. TAKE A LISTEN TO WHAT HE HAD TO SAY EARLIER. IS CURRENTLY IT’S STILL AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION, BUT CURRENTLY AT THIS TIME, THERE IS NO THREAT TO BWI, THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT AND AIRPORT IS CURRENTLY WITHIN THE LAST TEN MINUTES, HAS BEEN REOPENED. A person is in custody Wednesday afternoon after a police investigation into a vehicle that closed the terminal roadway at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Maryland Transportation Authority police Capt. Kevin Ayde told 11 News that a man made some statements that were concerning to officers, and, out of an abundance of caution, they took the person into custody.

The terminal roadway was closed around 3 p.m. and those in the terminal were advised to remain in place as police, the fire marshal and bomb technicians investigated a vehicle on the lower level roadway.

Video from SkyTeam 11, Baltimore’s only news helicopter, showed no one was being allowed to enter airport property, and a portion of Aviation Boulevard was blocked off as well.

An 11 News source at the airport described the airport as shutdown and said he saw MDTA police officers take a person into custody.

Police cleared the vehicle and crews reopened the upper level roadway around 4:17 p.m., at which time, travelers were only allowed to exit the terminal from the upper level, and taxi services were made available near upper level door No. 5.

SkyTeam 11 video showed the entrance to the lower level roadway and the hourly parking garage was blocked by police until that reopened around 5:08 p.m., and there were no longer any restrictions to approach or leave the terminal.

“Currently, it’s still an active investigation, but at this time, there is no threat to BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport and the airport is currently, within the last 10 minutes, back open, the roadways are back open and we’re hoping to go back to normal operations,” Ayde said.

The Baltimore offices of the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said its agents were responding to assist the MDTA and the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office in the investigation.

As the investigation got underway, SkyTeam 11 video showed some planes were allowed to take flight and land. Additionally, the Maryland Transit Administration suspended Light Rail service at the airport and terminated southbound trains at Cromwell Station. Service to the airport has since resumed.

The airport said anyone who has vehicles parked in the hourly garage could access the garage via the underground tunnel in the middle of the main terminal or via Skywalk D.
