Chalmette High School students tasered fight video

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Bernard Parish School District are investigating a fight that happened at Chalmette High School Friday morning. The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the fight at the school around 11 a.m. St. Bernard Parish Schools Superintendent Doris Voitier said a stun gun was used on two students during the fight. The kids involved in the fight have since been removed from the school. Voitier said a notification about the fight was sent to parents. According to Voitier, there is a plan in place anytime there is a fight in school, and teachers did well handling the situation. Voitier said no one was seriously injured. Videos posted on social media showed multiple students on the ground in the school hallway fighting when what appears to be a school resource officer intervenes. The video shows the light from what appears to be a stun gun go off before the brawl breaks up. The officer can be heard saying, “Get down, get down on the ground right now,” as the two students were detained.Parents at the school voiced concerns that they were not made aware of the fight until the videos circulated on social media. The superintendent says they sent one out after they controlled the incident and got students back into classrooms around 12:30.Eight students were arrested following the incident, and two teachers received minor injuries, according to the sheriff.
