Trial date set for Xaviar Babudar, aka ‘ChiefsAholic,’ after he pleads not guilty to charges
A Kansas City Chiefs superfan accused of robbing several banks around the country has pleaded not guilty. Xaviar Babudar, known as ‘ChiefsAholic,’ will go to trial on Jan. 8th, 2024. Babudar’s attorney, Matthew Merryman, spoke after Friday’s court appearance. ”This is not ChiefsAholic’s last drive,” Merryman said. “He believes, and we believe, that when the final whistle blows and all the facts are known that he is going to be redeemed in the eyes of his community, in the eyes of his fans, and in the eyes of Chiefs Kingdom.”An indictment released this week charged Babudar with three counts of armed bank robbery, one count of bank theft, 11 counts of money laundering, and four counts of transporting stolen property across state lines.Four major bank robberies were highlighted in the most recent indictment this week.On March 2, 2022, it’s alleged that Babudar robbed $70,000 from the Clive, Iowa branch of Great Western Bank. Then, on April 28, 2022, Babudar is accused of stealing $170,860 from the Omaha, Nebraska branch of the First National Bank of Omaha.On July 13, 2022, Babudar is accused of stealing $303,845 from the West Des Moines, Iowa branch of First Class Community Credit Union. He is accused of brandishing a firearm in this robbery.On November 17, 2022, Babudar allegedly robbed $125,900 from the Nashville, Tennessee branch of The Tennessee Credit Union.The indictment says Babudar not only used his alleged stolen money to attend Chiefs games around the country, but also bet on the team and Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.This is a developing story.
