Concacaf deal sees Aramco land latest sports sponsorship

Concacaf, the governing soccer body for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, has signed a multi-year partnership with Saudi Arabia state-owned oil giant Aramco.

Contract:

  • Aramco named official energy partner for all of Concacaf’s national team and club competitions
  • Concacaf Champions League, Concacaf Nations League Finals and Gold Cups included in deal
  • Partnership also covers men’s and women’s U-20 and U-17 championships

Context:

Aramco’s sport sponsorship portfolio already includes cricket via partnerships with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Indian Premier League (IPL), as well as Formula One and golf’s Ladies European Tour (LET). Last November, The Times reported that Aramco was set to become one of Fifa’s top-tier partners in a deal due to last until 2034 and worth up to US$100 million a year.

Comment:

“We look forward with great anticipation to working with Aramco to elevate all of our Concacaf competitions,” said Victor Montagliani, Concacaf president and Fifa vice president. “This is a very exciting time for the growth of football in our region, and we truly believe this partnership will be of mutual benefit for both organisations.”

Coming next:

Concacaf and Aramco’s partnership begins with the inaugural W Gold Cup, the group stages for which kick off on 20th February.
