Cyclone Midhili crosses over Bangladesh, heavy rains in these areas; IMD issues warning to fishermen – India News

Cyclone Midhili latest news: The Indian Meteorological Department on Friday confirmed that the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm. It is moving north-northeast wards at speed of 17 kmph. As per recent updates by IMD, Cyclone Midhili has just crossed Bangladesh coast near Khepupara and next 6 hours are crucial for Indian coastal regions.

The storm, which has been named Cyclone Midhili, can further intensify today and cross the Bangladesh coast, says the weather department. Heavy rainfall is predicted in the coastal regions of Odisha, West Bengal, Tripura and Mizoram with wind speed blowing in the range between 40 kmph and 70 kmph under the influence of Cyclone Midhili.

According to the weather department, rains are also expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam and Meghalaya till Saturday. Cyclone Midhili can turn into a cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours and cross the Bangladesh coast between Mongla and Khepupara, the weather department said.

Cyclone Midhili: Warning for fishermen

According to information by IMD, the location of Cyclone Midhili at 8:30 am on Thursday was approximately 390 kilometers to the east-southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and about 320 kilometers to the south-southeast of Paradip in Odisha.

As per news agency PTI, the system is forecasted to move northeast, intensify into a cyclonic storm, crossing Bangladesh coast.

The fishermen have also been warned by the weather department not to enter into the sea till November 18 as the cyclone is likely to intensify during this period.

As Cyclone Midhili crosses the coast of Bangladesh, rainfall is expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura which will be light to moderate from Thursday to Saturday. The local administration of the mentioned areas is on alert under the obligations to the warnings issued by the weather department around Cyclone Midhili.

Guidance from various numerical models indicates north-northeastwards movement towards Bangladesh coast with peak intensification suggested up to the marginal cyclone stage, added the agency.
