Drivers stuck for hours on I-93 in NH after deadly crash

Some drivers were stuck for hours on Interstate 93 South in Salem on Thursday afternoon after a deadly crash shut down the highway.WMUR managing editor Dave Sakowich was one of those drivers stuck on the highway for hours after the crash closed all lanes. Sakowich told News 9’s Imani Fleming he saw all of this happen around 4:30 p.m. He said traffic was at a complete stop with all of the lanes closed. Sakowich said four hours went by before any cars could move and it wasn’t until around 8:30 p.m. that state police allowed everyone on the road to start driving the wrong way down I-93 to get out of the traffic.Sakowich said he and hundreds of other drivers crossed over the median into the northbound lane of traffic. Sakowich said considering the situation, how serious the crash was, the other drivers he was around were pretty patient and everyone seemed understanding.

Sakowich told News 9’s Imani Fleming he saw all of this happen around 4:30 p.m. He said traffic was at a complete stop with all of the lanes closed.

Sakowich said he saw the cars involved.

“One had slammed into the concrete median, there was another car that ended up a couple of lanes over and there was debris across the highway,” Sakowich said.

Sakowich said considering the situation, how serious the crash was, the other drivers he was around were pretty patient and everyone seemed understanding.
