Elkins Christmas Parade set for Dec. 1 | News, Sports, Jobs

ELKINS — The date has been set for the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber’s second annual “Jingle All the Way” Christmas Parade, along with the official rebranding of the town to “Elfkins” for the month of December.

This season’s holiday events including the parade, the renaming of the city, and the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, will take place on Friday, Dec. 1.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The route will once again begin in the area of 11th Street before continuing up Davis Avenue toward its final destination, the Elkins Railyard Depot Welcome Center.

“The parade is going to go up through town and it will be followed by the Christmas Tree Lighting,” Elkins-Randolph County Chamber Director Lisa Wood told The Inter-Mountain Wednesday. “Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the parade on their sleigh and will head over to the depot, where they will join Mayor Jerry Marco and his wife Paula, and Lucinda Mullenex for the tree lighting ceremony.”

During the tree lighting ceremony at the depot, Santa Claus will be available for a photo opportunity with children, and the Elkins Middle School choir will perform.

“We are hoping for some snow possibly. That would make it really fun,” Wood said. “Last year it was huge and we hope to have even more people attend this year. This event is a wonderful way to start the holiday season for the entire community.”

The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber is currently seeking organizations, bands, dance squads and other entities who want to participate in this year’s parade.

“We are looking for businesses, organizations and community groups to register for the parade,” said Wood. “We had a great turnout at last year’s parade and we are hoping for many more participants this time around.”

Wood added that “Elfkins” T-shirts and ornaments will be available at the tree lighting ceremony, and that the Chamber and Elkins Main Street are also partnering to sell dedicated Christmas wreaths that will be placed around the depot. The two are also offering potted live Christmas trees to downtown businesses.
