TULSA – A global engineering, technology and consulting company has signed a strategic agreement with Spirit AeroSystems and will open an office to complement Spirit’s operations in Tulsa.

The firm, Expleo, will offer Spirit AeroSystems engineering services to support its development of next-generation aerospace projects. Complementing Expleo’s regional headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, the Tulsa facility will use the latest digital capabilities, including artificial intelligence, to maximize cost efficiency and accelerate time-to-market goals, the companies said in a release.

“This complements the ongoing investment in talent we are making in our Wichita Center of Excellence, where we have hired over 200 graduate and mid-career engineers in the last year and continue to be laser-focused on engaging the future aerospace leaders of tomorrow,” Spirit AeroSystems Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Sean Black said.

Expleo already employs some 350 aerospace and automotive industry professionals located in offices across the United States. It also has access to a network of more than 17,500 engineering experts across Europe and India.

The Tulsa office will be the company’s seventh in the U.S. To open by the end of this year, it’s expected to employ 30 people, and growth is anticipated.

Expleo Vice President of Aerospace Graham Younger said the company and Spirit have previously had a productive relationship.

“Spirit is an important partner for Expleo globally, and we’re proud that we will be breaking new ground together in Tulsa,” he said. “This facility will improve the cross-pollination of ideas and allow Spirit to gain maximum benefit from Expleo’s experience in engineering combined with the latest digital technologies and processes to accelerate sustainable innovation, maximize productivity and get new aircraft on runways and in the air.”

Spirit AeroSystems identifies as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of aerostructures for commercial airplanes, defense platforms, and business/regional jets. The company employs about 18,200 people in Tulsa.

“Our expansion into Tulsa is part of an ambitious vision we have for the U.S. aerospace and defense industries and will be a pivotal step in delivering the skills they need to meet growing demand,” Expleo USA General Manager Will Hague said. “By making this move, we will create new, highly skilled jobs in the region and develop expertise across competencies that are critical to engineering in a digital age.”
