‘Evergreen Icon’: PM Modi Remembers Dev Anand On 100th Anniversary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today remembered Dev Anand on his 100th birth anniversary and praised him as “evergreen icon.” PM Modi shared pictures with the late actor and said his films “reflected the changing society.”

He wrote, “Dev Anand Ji is remembered as an evergreen icon. His flair for storytelling and passion for cinema were unmatched. His films not only entertained but also reflected the changing society and aspirations of India. His timeless performances continue to influence generations. Remembering him on his 100th birth anniversary.”

Zeenat Aman, took to her social media handle and penned a note for the artiste. The actress wrote, “Celebrating 100 years of Dev saab. Stylish, suave and prolific, he was a dynamo beyond compare. And what generosity of talent! He sparked careers (mine included), brought together creative heads, and made films that resonated across generations.”

Shekhar Kapur wrote, “Few remember #devanand as a man of immense courage. During the #emergency imposed by #IndiraGandhi, when the cost of speaking out was immediate imprisonment, Dev Anand took to the streets to rally people to stand up against the emergency .. and defied Indira Gandhi.”

Dev Anand is known for appearing in some of the most celebrated movies of all time, including Guide , Jewel Thief, and Manzil among others. He was not just a celebrated actor, but also a director and producer. He passed away in December, 2011 in the United Kingdom.
