Exciting changes coming to WBAL-TV’s ’11 News Today’
Megan Rivers to replace Jason Newton as co-anchor as he moves to evenings
WBAL-TV 11 announced today that Megan Rivers, who has been serving as the station’s daily breaking news anchor on “11 News Today” since January of this year, will join co-anchor Lacee Griffith on the anchor desk starting Monday. The two will team with meteorologist Ava Marie and traffic reporter Chelsea Ingram weekdays from 4:30-7 a.m. Concurrently, anchor Jason Newton will move to a permanent role as co-anchor of “11 News at 5 p.m.””We’re excited for Megan to have a seat at the anchor desk alongside Lacee on ’11 News Today’,” commented Dan Joerres, President and General Manager of WBAL-TV, WBAL NewsRadio and 98 Rock. “Her focus on breaking news has proven to be an impactful addition to our ‘Live, Local, LateBreaking’ morning newscast and will continue to be an ongoing focus for ‘11 News Today.'” He adds, “Her energetic personality is a great fit for Baltimore’s number one morning newscast.” Prior to joining WBAL-TV 11, Rivers served as a reporter in Washington, D.C. for three years, where she covered the historic March on Washington in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd. “What happens in every community matters,” Rivers commented concerning her new anchor role. “Being able to be one of the journalists responsible for reporting the news, be it good or challenging, is a responsibility I do not take for granted or lightly. My goal is to continue to be a trusted source for accurate, breaking news and information, for news is, in fact, the first draft of history,” she concluded.
